Gardening can feel overwhelming — especially when you’re just starting out.
There’s so much information online. And a lot of it makes beginners feel like they’re already doing everything wrong. Plant spacing. Soil types. Fertilizers. Pruning rules. Companion planting. Water schedules.
It’s enough to make anyone quit before they even begin.
That’s why I started Southern Grown with Jess.
I wanted to create a space where:
- 🌿 Beginners feel comfortable asking questions
- 🌿 Seasoned gardeners feel welcome
- 🌿 No one feels judged for learning as they go
This is a real-life gardening blog — focused on beginner gardening, southern gardens, Middle Tennessee growing, and Zone 7b realities. I share:
- Gardening tips that actually work for beginners
- Honest gardening advice (no sugarcoating)
- Vegetable garden basics
- Plant tips that don’t require a science degree
- Stories from the garden — mistakes included
Because mistakes are how we learn.
Gardens don’t need to be perfect — or perfectly aesthetic — to be successful. If we’re learning, having fun, and reaping what we sow (even in messy, beautiful ways), then we’re doing it right.
So whether you’re starting your very first garden or just trying to keep a tomato plant alive…
Welcome to Southern Grown with Jess.
Let’s learn together 🌱
